| Miniature Watercolour on Ivory. British India Period.Circa 1800-1840
A superb watercolour of Emma Stanley, painted on Ivory and mounted in its original square hardwood frame with inset decorative gilded metal frame housing a domed glazed front.
The painting which is expertly executed is on very thin ivory which at sometime (before I purchased it) has been cracked from 1.0 o'clock down to 3.0 o'clock to the right of the subject and therefore has been mounted on some more recent card for its protection. This repair is hardle noticeable and dores not in any way detract from the painting.
The reverse of the painting reveals the copper mountings used for securing the picture to the frame and also an old label with the words 'Emma Stanley, Calcutta' to the top right hand corner .Typical Late Georgian /Early Victorian ring mount for hanging.
Size of frame approx.5" Square, painting approx.3" diameter.
